Morigaon (Assam): Due to ongoing heavy rainfall and rising water levels of the Brahmaputra River, many families in Assam’s Morigaon and Darrang districts have been displaced. Residents like Md Raham Ali and his family are now residing in makeshift tents after floodwaters inundated their homes. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that over 6.33 lakh people across 21 districts have been affected by the floods, with rescue and relief operations ongoing.

Md Raham Ali told ANI that his family has been living in their current location for three days, as floodwaters entered their house, damaging food supplies such as rice and other household goods. His house is submerged, and they are facing problems like lack of drinking water. Although originally from Darrang district, Ali is now sheltering near a highland in Morigaon. He added that around 40 families from Hiloikhunda village are experiencing similar difficulties, and if the rain persists, the situation could worsen.

Many flood-affected families have moved to nearby highlands to escape rising waters. Lali Khatun, another resident, shared that her family couldn’t save their food grains as floodwaters quickly entered their house. They have been sheltering there for three days and are now facing food shortages and drinking water issues.
