Kokrajhar: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma received a warm reception upon his arrival in Kokrajhar on Monday morning to participate in a historic session of the Assam Assembly, taking place outside Guwahati for the first time ever. The inaugural day of the Budget session is being held at the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) assembly, aimed at promoting a message of peace.
Buses transporting Assam ministers and MLAs headed to the BTC assembly for the session. Minister Pijush Hazarika remarked that this is a significant event under Chief Minister Sarma’s leadership, highlighting the transformation in Kokrajhar over the past 15 years. He noted that while there was once a demand for a separate state, the current sentiment is one of welcome and unity, emphasizing the importance of this initiative.
Deputy Speaker Numal Momin expressed that this assembly session would convey a positive message of peace in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), noting the stability that has followed the BJP government’s arrival. He stated that the event would resonate well with the people of Assam and align with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of inclusive development.
BJP MLA Mrinal Saikia called it a historic day for Assam, emphasizing the significance of discussing the development of the six scheduled areas during the assembly. AIUDF MLA Karim Uddin Barbhuiya praised the decision to hold the session outside the capital, acknowledging the BTC’s previous underdevelopment and insecurity, and highlighting the government’s commitment to the Bodo people’s progress.
Congress MLA Abdur Rashid Mandal referred to the session as a historic moment for the sixth schedule area, with a focus on socio-economic development. AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam noted that this marks a peaceful restoration in the region, indicating the government’s recognition of the BTC area, which has transitioned from being marginalized since 1985 to becoming part of the mainstream narrative.
