Cachar (Assam): Assam police seized 102 liters of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and drugs in two separate operations in Cachar district, arresting two individuals, according to officials.
Numal Mahatta, Superintendent of Police for Cachar district, stated that on the evening of March 4, acting on intelligence, a raid was conducted in the Irongmara Bazar area of Dwarbond police station. Police recovered 102.84 liters of IMFL from a pan shop, which was seized in the presence of witnesses. The suspects involved in the illicit liquor operation remain at large.
In a separate incident on the night of March 4, police acted on a tip-off about two individuals near Silchar Railway Station, Tarapur, carrying suspected contraband. Two men, Rokibul Islam (26) and Jahangir Alom (30) from Barpeta, were apprehended. Police found three plastic soap cases containing heroin in Jahangir Alom’s possession. The heroin was believed to be intended for delivery in Barpeta. The contraband was seized, and legal action was taken against the suspects.
The investigation into both cases is ongoing.
Earlier, on February 28, Cachar Police launched a special operation based on credible intelligence regarding the illegal transportation of narcotics. Police intercepted a Bolero Pickup van on Silcoorie Road, Sildubi, under Silchar Police Station jurisdiction, and discovered 35 soap cases of heroin, weighing about 415 grams, hidden in secret compartments in the vehicle. They also seized Rs 2 lakh in cash. Two suspects, Anwar Hussain Laskar and Ripan Ahmad Laskar, were arrested in connection with the operation. The drugs, cash, and vehicle were seized, with the narcotics valued at approximately Rs 2.20 crore in the black market. The drugs had been transported from a neighboring state.
