New Delhi: The controversy including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Baibta Phogat started as soon as Sakshi Malik’s autobiography ‘Witness’ was released. In her memoir, she claimed that Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia got exemption in the trials of Asian Games-2023 due to greed which further tarnished the image of the protest carried out by wrestlers.
Sakshi also claimed that the wrestlers were instigated by BJP leader and Dangal Girl Babita Phogat and BJP leader from Sonipat Tirth Rana. Sakshi said that it was Babita Phogat who approached all wrestlers to launch a protest against the misconduct by Brij Bhushan Singh. Sakshi claimed that Babita Phogat who is also a BJP leader initiated the protest as she had her own agenda of becoming the WFI Chief.
Denying the fact that the protest of wrestlers was supported by Congress, Sakshi said that Congress never supported it instead two BJP leaders Babita Phogat and Tirth Rana helped them in securing the spot for protest.
Sakshi Malik said that after the wrestlers’ agitation, WFI was suspended. An ad hoc committee started looking after the work which gave Bajrang and Vinesh an exemption in the trials for the 2023 Asian Games. She added that she was also offered the same but she refused. Sakshi said that Vinesh-Bajrang were influenced by the people around them which developed cracks in the protest and tarnished its image.
Sakshi Malik also commented on the Weight controversy related to Vinesh Phogat during the Olympics. Let us tell you that, Vinesh was disqualified from the gold medal match after she was found 100 grams overweight than the limit. Sakshi said, “There was no conspiracy against Vinesh in the Paris Olympics. Forget about 100 grams, even if it was 10 grams more, the rules of United World Wrestling (UWW) do not allow to fight. It is certain that Vinesh cut her hair to reduce her weight. She shortened her costume. I also cried several times that day after seeing Vinesh.”
