New Delhi: Ahead of Lok Sabha elections, Election Commission has transferred DMS & SPs who are not conferred IAS and IPS respectively. Under this commission has transferred transfers 8 non-cadre SPS/SSPs and 5 non-cadre DMs in four states.
The four states where action has been taken by the election commission include Gujarat, Punjab, Odisha and West Bengal.
Taking forward its commitment to provide level playing field in the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2024, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has today issued transfer orders for non-cadre officers, serving in four states namely Gujarat, Punjab, Odisha and West Bengal. The officers to be transferred are:
1. Gujarat SP of Chhota Udaipur and Ahmedabad Rural districts
2. Punjab – SSP of Pathankot, Fazilka, Jalandhar Rural and Malerkotla districts
3. Odisha DM of Dhenkanal and SPS of Deogarh and Cuttack Rural districts
4. West Bengal – DM of Purba Medinipur, Jhargram, Purba Bardhaman and Birbhum districts
Additionally, the commission has transferred DM/SP who have relations with those in power. This includes transfer of SSP Bathinda in Punjab and SP Sonitpur in Assam. The officials in these two districts have been transferred as pre-emptive measures to dispel any apprehensions of the administration being biased or perceived to be compromised, as per ECI.
In a letter issued, the Commission said this action is a demonstration of the Commission’s dedication and promise to maintain the impartiality and integrity of the electoral process, a sentiment repeatedly emphasized by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.
The decision was taken after the commission called a meeting under the chairmanship of CEC Rajeev Kumar with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu.
