New Delhi: AAP national convenor and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched a fierce critique of the BJP, claiming the party is trying to manipulate voter lists in anticipation of the upcoming elections. He accused the BJP of executing ‘Operation Lotus’ in his Assembly constituency since December 15.
Kejriwal stated that the BJP does not have a Chief Ministerial candidate, a clear vision, or reliable plans, resorting instead to dishonest tactics that threaten the integrity of Indian democracy. “They want to win elections through any underhanded means, but the people of Delhi won’t let this happen,” he asserted.
He pointed to significant voter deletion efforts in the Shahdara constituency, where the BJP allegedly sought to remove 11,008 voters. “We won that area, and such deletions could have severely impacted our chances. I’m grateful to the Chief Election Commissioner for intervening,” Kejriwal said.
In his own constituency, he claimed “Operation Lotus” resulted in attempts to delete 5,000 voters while adding 7,500 in just 15 days. With 106,000 voters in his constituency, this manipulation—aiming to alter 12 percent of the votes—raises serious concerns regarding the electoral process, according to him.
Kejriwal provided context on the recent summary revision of voter lists conducted from August 20 to October 20, which led to an updated list released on October 29. “If the BJP questions 12 percent of the votes, it casts doubt on the Election Commission’s findings,” he noted.
He further revealed that of 500 verified deletion requests, 408 were found to be valid residents, making the requests questionable. He named individuals allegedly involved in these actions.
Kejriwal emphasized that the elimination of eligible citizens’ voting rights is unconstitutional, noting that any voter deletion requests exceeding 2 percent in a constituency require personal verification by the Electoral Registration Officer.
Lastly, he accused the BJP of bribing voters, stating, “I told people not to accept money, yet many replied that they’d take the cash but vote for me. The public is very smart.”
