Jaipur: The Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Rajasthan’s Jaipur was evacuated on Thursday following a bomb threat, which was issued on the orders of the Rajasthan Sports Council president. All staff and spectators inside the stadium were safely evacuated, and a large police presence was deployed on the premises while investigators conducted a thorough probe.
Neeraj A Pawan, president of the Rajasthan State Sports Council, stated that the threat was received via email and subsequently forwarded to the police commissioner. The bomb disposal squad and frisking teams were dispatched to the stadium, which was completely evacuated as a precaution.
He added, “We received an email threatening a bomb. The email was sent to the Police Commissioner, and the bomb disposal team arrived promptly. The investigation continues, and the stadium has been cleared.”
Earlier, on Wednesday, a similar threat was received regarding Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata during the IPL match between KKR and CSK. The Cricket Association of Bengal confirmed that an email from an unknown source contained a bomb threat, leading to heightened security measures.
CAB president Snehasish Ganguly said the threat was detected in their official email inbox during the game, and authorities are investigating the matter. Security at Eden Gardens has been increased as a precaution.
These incidents come amid heightened national security concerns following the recent Pahalgam terror attack, prompting India to launch ‘Operation Sindoor’ as a response.
