Lucknow: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has declared a nationwide protest on December 24 in response to Home Minister Amit Shah’s controversial remarks about Dr. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar in Parliament, which the party claims disrespected the architect of India’s Constitution.

BSP chief Mayawati took to social media on Saturday to express her party’s strong disapproval of Shah’s statements. She emphasized the lasting respect for Dr. Ambedkar, referring to him as a “super-humanistic” figure who created a welfare-oriented Constitution that advocates for the rights and dignity of Dalits, marginalized groups, and other neglected communities.

“Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the author of the Constitution that upholds self-respect and human rights for Dalits and the underprivileged, is revered like God. Disrespect towards him by Shri Amit Shah has hurt the sentiments of the people,” Mayawati stated.

She added that there is widespread anger and agitation among people from various backgrounds regarding the remarks made in Parliament about such a significant figure. The Ambedkarite BSP has called for an immediate retraction and public apology from the Home Minister, which has yet to occur.

Mayawati announced that if their demands for withdrawal of the statement and an apology are not met, the BSP will mobilize its supporters across the nation.

“The party has decided to hold a peaceful, nationwide agitation on December 24, with dharnas and demonstrations at all district headquarters to demand justice,” she declared.

She also highlighted Dr. Ambedkar’s historical and social importance, describing him as the “true messiah” of Dalits and Bahujans who dedicated his life to securing their legal rights and social dignity. “Without Babasaheb, who empowered the Dalits and Bahujans to stand with self-respect and ensured their legal rights, his legacy must be honored above all,” she stated.

Mayawati criticized both the BJP and Congress, accusing them of hypocrisy regarding their treatment of Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy. “If parties like the BJP and Congress cannot genuinely respect Babasaheb, they should at least avoid disrespecting him. The day Babasaheb secured legal rights and reservations for SC, ST, and OBC communities through the Constitution was like them achieving seven lifetimes of blessings,” she asserted.

Earlier, Mayawati demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah retract his controversial statement about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar during a press conference in Lucknow on Thursday.
