Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the state’s budget for 2025-26 is 9.8% larger than the previous year’s budget, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure development. In a press conference, he shared that the budget for the year exceeds ₹8.08 lakh crore, reflecting both the state’s growth and the commitment of the double-engine government. He also pointed out that Uttar Pradesh, once the 6th-7th largest economy in India, is now the second-largest economy in the country.
CM Yogi highlighted that Uttar Pradesh has been recognized by NITI Aayog as a front-runner state in terms of fiscal health. Between 2018 and 2022, the state’s fiscal health index rose by 8.9%, and during this period, the state reduced unemployment and generated more jobs. He stated that 22% of the budget is dedicated to infrastructure development, and for education, ₹1,06,360 crore has been allocated, making up 13% of the total budget—well above the typical 6% demand. The agriculture sector is allocated 11% of the budget, while healthcare will receive ₹50,550 crore, or 6% of the total. Additionally, ₹35,863 crore is set aside for social welfare, benefiting marginalized communities including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, backward classes, and others.
The CM also announced the construction of four new expressways. He noted that this budget is significant as it marks 75 years since the implementation of the Indian Constitution and the formation of Uttar Pradesh, and will set a course for the state’s future over the next 25 years. As part of the celebrations, the state government will establish the Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar Memorial and Cultural Centre in Lucknow, aiming to promote Ambedkar’s values and support the upliftment of marginalized sections of society.
