New Delhi: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was brought before a city court here by CBI upon the expiry of the 3-day remand in connection with the corruption case linked to the liquor policy case.
CM Kejriwal, on June 26, was sent to CBI custody for three days by Rouse Avenue Court on the agency’s application seeking custody of the Aam Aadmi Party supremo for interrogation.
Earlier that day, CM Kejriwal, when produced before vacation judge Amitabh Rawat, was formally arrested by the CBI. Permission was granted to CBI to produce CM Kejriwal in the special court after he was questioned by the Central agency in Tihar Jail earlier this week.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was sent to jail by the Rouse Avenue Court on Saturday in judicial custody for 14 days (12 July). In the Delhi liquor policy case, the CBI arrested him from Tihar Jail on 26 June. After 3 days of custody, he was produced in the court today.
In the liquor policy case, the CBI is investigating a corruption case against Kejriwal. During the hearing today, the CBI sought Kejriwal’s judicial custody from Justice Sunaina Sharma’s court, which was accepted by the court. He is already in Tihar Jail in the money laundering case.
Actually, two cases are registered against Kejriwal. The first is of ED, in which a case of money laundering has been registered against him. ED arrested Kejriwal on 21 March. The second is of CBI, which was registered regarding corruption in the liquor policy. Kejriwal was arrested again in this case on 26 June.
This case was registered on the complaint of Delhi LG VK Saxena. Both the cases have been registered separately, hence the arrests have been made separately. Kejriwal’s judicial custody in the ED case is ending on July 3.
