A consensus has been reached on the plan to conduct board exams twice a year for class 10 and 12. This exam of the entire syllabus will be held in January and April.

New Delhi: A consensus has been reached on the plan to conduct board exams twice a year for class 10 and 12. This exam of the entire syllabus will be held in January and April.

The Center is preparing to implement the new pattern in CBSE from the next session 2025-26. The first board exam of the new pattern will be held in January 2026 and the second exam of the same session will be held in April 2026.

Students will have the option to appear in both the exams. If the students wish, they will be able to sit in both or any one of the exams as per their convenience. Students taking both the exams will be able to use the result of better performance.

The School Education Department of the Ministry has taken opinion on this in online and physical meetings with more than 10 thousand school principals across the country.

The ministry had given 3 options, 2 were rejected
The education department had 3 options…

First: Like the semester system of higher education, an exam of half the syllabus should be conducted at the end of each semester in September and March.

Second: Just as supplementary exams are conducted in July after the board exams in March-April, the entire board exam should be conducted instead of the supplementary exam at that time.

Third: Just as exams are conducted twice in January and April for JEE Mains, similarly board exams for the entire syllabus should also be conducted once in January and the second time in April.

Most principals agree on the third option. Most principals rejected the semester system. Their argument on the second option of the exam in July was that it would not help students save a year or get admission for higher education. Principals have been asked to submit their views in writing.
