CBSE makes installation of CCTV cameras mandatory in all schools, new instructions issued for security

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has ordered all its affiliated schools to install high-definition (HD) CCTV cameras to ensure the security of school premises.

New Delhi, July 22:  The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has ordered all its affiliated schools to install high-definition (HD) CCTV cameras to ensure the security of school premises. These cameras will be installed in every important part of the school, including classrooms, entry and exit points, corridors and labs etc.

Only toilets and washrooms will remain out of camera surveillance

Keeping in mind the privacy, toilets and washrooms will be kept out of camera surveillance. These new rules have been issued to ensure the safety of children and keep a watch on incidents of bullying and abuse taking place in schools.

15 days of recording mandatory

The CBSE has also ordered that each camera should have at least 15 days of recording. This will give time to investigate any complaint and the administration will also be able to take timely action. The school administration has been asked to keep checking the footage regularly so that any irregularities can be rectified in time.

Mixed reactions from parents and teachers

There are mixed reactions from parents regarding this decision. Many parents have praised this decision and said that now they will feel more assured about the safety of their children. But some teachers and parents have expressed concern that it will affect the natural behaviour of children and teachers and create the feeling that they are always being monitored.

The rule will be applicable to every CBSE school

These new rules will be applicable to all CBSE affiliated schools. However, the final date for installing cameras has not been fixed yet.

The school administration has been instructed to prepare for installing cameras, so that it can fully ensure the safety of children.
