New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jammu and Kashmir for a day to inaugurate several key infrastructure projects, including the world’s tallest railway arch bridge over the Chenab River. Standing at 359 meters above the river, the Chenab Rail Bridge is the highest of its kind globally, stretching 1,315 meters in length and built to withstand seismic activity and strong winds. This bridge will play a crucial role in improving connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar, allowing the Vande Bharat train to complete the journey in about three hours—reducing travel time by 2-3 hours.

During his visit, Modi will also inaugurate India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge, the Anji Bridge, designed for challenging terrain. He is set to flag off new Vande Bharat trains and will inaugurate and dedicate multiple development projects valued at over Rs 46,000 crore in Katra.

A major highlight of the visit is the dedication of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), a 272 km rail line built at a cost of approximately Rs 43,780 crore. This project features 36 tunnels and 943 bridges, providing year-round seamless rail connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of India, aiming to transform regional mobility and socio-economic development.

The Prime Minister will also launch two Vande Bharat trains running from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar, offering faster and more comfortable travel options. He will lay the foundation stones for several road projects to improve last-mile connectivity, including the expansion of the Rafiabad-Kupwara highway and the Shopian bypass, with a combined investment of over Rs 1,952 crore.

In addition, Modi will inaugurate flyovers at Sangrama Junction and Bemina Junction to ease traffic congestion in Srinagar. He will also lay the foundation for the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence in Katra, a Rs 350 crore healthcare facility—the first medical college in Reasi district—that will enhance regional healthcare infrastructure.
