New Delhi: Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, along with Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Air Chief Marshal A. P. Singh, and Naval Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday. During the meeting, the Armed Forces officers briefed the President about Operation Sindoor. President Murmu praised the bravery and dedication of the Indian Armed Forces, acknowledging their efforts as instrumental in making India’s response to terrorism highly successful, as posted on Rashtrapati Bhavan’s official X account.

On May 7, the Indian Armed Forces carried out strikes against nine terror hideouts deep inside Pakistan and in Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK), in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack. Soon after, the Indian government suspended the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan, following a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his May 12 national address, stated that Operation Sindoor, along with the surgical strike of 2016 and the Balakot airstrikes of 2019, now defines India’s stand on counter-terrorism. He emphasized that India has paused the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam attack, asserting that water and blood cannot flow together. Modi added that negotiations with Pakistan would only be on terrorism and the full return of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, which he called an illegal occupation.

The Prime Minister further remarked that Operation Sindoor has set a new standard in India’s fight against terrorism, establishing a fresh benchmark and a new normal for the country’s policy approach.
