Chopra couple assault: Governor Anand bose to meet victims today, NHRC takes cognizance of matter

After meeting the woman, he will go to Delhi again and submit a report of the incident to the central government.

New Delhi: Governor Anand Bose sought a report from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday (July 1) in the case of a woman being beaten on the road in Chopra, North Dinajpur, West Bengal.

The Raj Bhavan official said that Bose is currently in Delhi. He will reach Chopra on Tuesday and meet the victim. After meeting the woman, he will go to Delhi again and submit a report of the incident to the central government.

NHRC takes cognizance of Chopra incident

At the same time, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has also taken cognizance of the matter on Monday. The commission has issued a notice to the Mamata government and the DGP of West Bengal. The NHRC has asked the Director General (Investigation) to immediately form a team and send it to Chopra in North Dinajpur.

The NHRC has said, ‘The main culprit of the incident is allegedly associated with the ruling party of West Bengal. He can be clearly seen in the viral video of the woman being beaten. The team should be led by a senior SP rank officer and the report of the incident should be sent to the commission as soon as possible.’

At the same time, the West Bengal Police said on Monday that, ‘Fake news is being spread regarding this matter. Some people are trying to give a political colour to the incident. The truth is that on receiving information about the incident, the police immediately identified the culprit and arrested him. Police protection has been provided to the victim.
