Srinagar: On December 14, the Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK), a branch of the CID, executed raids at various locations in Anantnag and Kulgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Sources indicate that CIK operatives searched the Anantnag district jail in Mattan, examining multiple barracks and areas within the jail. These actions are linked to an investigation of a terror-related case. Additionally, teams are conducting searches in the villages of Chawalgam and Sonigam in Kulgam district, authorized by search warrants from the court.

Previously, investigations by various agencies during similar raids have uncovered mobile phones in use by inmates. In many instances, jail authorities claimed they were unaware of these phones’ presence. Furthermore, some jail officials have come under scrutiny from intelligence agencies.

This increased activity follows a rise in terrorist actions targeting civilians, security forces, and police, prompting strict orders for security forces to pursue terrorists, their over-ground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers in an effort to dismantle the terror network in J&K.

These attacks have escalated following the largely peaceful Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections in J&K, which were noted for significant public participation. Intelligence agencies suspect that the successful electoral process may have heightened frustration among terror operatives across the border, leading to directives for increased militant activities as a final push against dwindling militancy in the region.

Notably, on October 20, terrorists launched a shooting attack at a workers’ camp of an infrastructure company in Gagangir, Ganderbal district, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals, including six company workers and a local doctor.
