Patna: In a significant step to enhance Bihar’s public transportation, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday inaugurated 166 new deluxe buses, with 20 of these specifically reserved for women passengers.

The event took place at the Chief Minister’s official residence at 1 Anne Marg in Patna, attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with Road Transport Minister Sheela Kumari.

Among the fleet, 20 buses are dedicated solely to women and will operate within Patna and selected districts, providing safer, more inclusive travel options for female commuters. The remaining 144 buses will serve inter-regional routes, connecting various districts and supporting both male and female passengers across the state.

The newly introduced buses include both air-conditioned and non-AC models, aimed at offering increased comfort, affordability, and dependability. Before the launch, the Chief Minister personally inspected the vehicles to ensure safety and comfort features.

A government official highlighted that this move is part of Bihar’s efforts to make public transportation more accessible and inclusive, especially in rural, urban, and semi-urban regions.

These buses are expected to improve inter-district connectivity, ease congestion, and upgrade service quality for daily commuters. The introduction of women-only buses underscores Bihar’s focus on promoting gender-sensitive infrastructure and empowering women.

The state government also has plans to expand its public transport network further in the coming months, emphasizing safety, punctuality, and digital enhancements. Additionally, Bihar’s Roads Department is set to invest Rs 25,000 crore in road repairs during 2025, with an emphasis on continuous monitoring, quick grievance resolution, and regular maintenance to ensure road quality.

The Road Construction Department is also progressing with several key projects to improve overall connectivity across Bihar.
