Jaipur: Cold winds from North India have led to a notable decrease in temperatures across Rajasthan, with some cities in the desert state experiencing drops of up to 7 degrees Celsius.
On Friday, the maximum daytime temperatures in Ganganagar and Sikar fell below 30 degrees Celsius. Cities such as Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Jodhpur also saw temperature reductions of 2 to 6 degrees Celsius, with their maximum temperatures dropping below 35 degrees Celsius.
Weather experts have indicated that temperatures may continue to decline over the next two days. Between April 1 and 2, the wind direction in the state will shift from north to west, which is expected to result in a subsequent rise in temperatures.
In the past 24 hours, Rajasthan enjoyed clear skies with bright sunshine, but cool winds persisted from morning until late evening in many areas. Except for Bhilwara, all other cities in the state recorded maximum temperatures below 36 degrees Celsius. Noteworthy drops ranging from 2 to 7 degrees Celsius were observed in Alwar, Pilani, Sikar, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Bikaner, Churu, and Ganganagar. The northern winds also contributed to lower nighttime temperatures, with Fatehpur in Sikar recording a minimum of 9.8 degrees Celsius and Pali at 9.9 degrees Celsius. Bikaner registered 14.8 degrees, while Pilani and Sikar received minimums of 15.5 degrees Celsius. Jaisalmer, Churu, and Ganganagar also reported nighttime temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius.
According to the Jaipur Meteorological Centre, the effects of the northern winds will persist in Rajasthan for the next two days, potentially causing an additional 1-2 degrees Celsius drop in temperatures. However, from April 1-2, the influence of western winds is expected to increase, leading to a rise of 2-3 degrees Celsius in both minimum and maximum temperatures.
RS Sharma, Director of IMD Jaipur, stated, “In the last 24 hours, maximum temperatures have decreased by 3 to 7 degrees, while minimum temperatures have dropped by 2 to 5 degrees. In most areas, maximum temperatures remain below 35 degrees Celsius.”
The southeastern regions of the state are likely to remain cloudy from March 31 to April 3, with light rain and thunderstorms possible in some areas of the Udaipur-Kota division on April 2-3. However, temperatures are expected to rise by 3-4 degrees afterward. Southwest Rajasthan might see temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius on April 3, with forecasts predicting temperatures above 42 degrees Celsius on April 5-6.
