New Delhi: The Congress party is organizing a large protest on Wednesday, intending to besiege the Uttar Pradesh Assembly in Lucknow. Congress workers from various districts have already assembled in the city for the demonstration.

In response to the planned protest, the Uttar Pradesh Police have heightened security measures. Notices have been issued to more than two dozen senior Congress leaders, including state President Ajay Rai, outgoing General Secretary (organization) Anil Yadav, and Dinesh Singh.

Congress leaders and activists are gearing up to take to the streets, marking a heightened phase of political activity in the state.

The protest targets the policies of the Yogi Adityanath-led government, with Congress highlighting issues such as unemployment, inflation, communal tensions, power shortages, and challenges in healthcare and education, alongside the recent violence in Sambhal.

A significant police presence has been established throughout Lucknow, with extra precautions at sensitive areas to ensure order is maintained. Law enforcement is closely monitoring the situation to prevent any disturbances.

The protest could disrupt traffic in the city, and commuters are advised to stay updated on traffic guidelines.

This demonstration coincides with the Winter Session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, running from December 17 to 20.

During the session on Tuesday, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna presented a second supplementary budget of ₹17,865.72 crore, accounting for 2.42% of the original ₹7,36,437.71 crore budget. Key funding is directed toward agriculture and industry, including ₹790.49 crore for new initiatives.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the session, expected to cover important topics such as the Sambhal violence, anti-encroachment campaigns, preparations for the Maha Kumbh, and the Jhansi hospital fire incident that resulted in the tragic loss of numerous newborns.
