Congress MP assaulted: Assam CM posts names of Rakibul Hussain’s attackers, says police identified them

Assam: The day after Congress MP Rakibul Hussain was assaulted by a group of unidentified individuals in Assam’s Nagaon district, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that police have identified those involved in the attack. Sarma shared the names of ten suspects, which include: Harun from Jamtola Haresh from Fakoli Basir from Tamulitup Kasem Ali.

  2. Haresh from Fakoli
  3. Basir from Tamulitup
  4. Kasem Ali from Kawoimari
  5. Rosidul from Kawoimari
  6. Ayub Gunabari
  7. Lutkior from the railway station
  8. Khaleque from Rowmari
  9. Mojibur from Gorematikhowa
  10. Jahangir from Koachgaon

He stated that police action would be taken against the individuals as per legal procedures.

The incident occurred on Thursday when Rakibul Hussain was attacked with cricket bats while riding a two-wheeler to a party meeting in Gunomari village, under the Rupohi police station. The assailants, with their faces covered, shouted slogans against him. Hussain’s personal security officers attempted to protect him, even firing their weapons, but were also targeted by the attackers.

According to DGP Harmeet Singh, Hussain was unharmed, although two PSOs sustained minor injuries. He received first aid at a hospital before proceeding to the party meeting, accompanied by the district superintendent of police. In response to the attack, CM Sarma has ordered heightened security for Hussain while he remains in the district, especially in the Samaguri and Rupohihat areas.
