New Delhi: Member parliament of congress from Saharanpur Imran Masood on Wednesday voiced his strong opposition to the Waqf Amendment Bill,2025 while terming it as an “anti-Constitutional” Bill.

He questioned how the government could register the Waqf properties within six months when the same could not be done in the last ten years.

“WAMSI portal (An On-line System for Searching Waqf Properties) was being mentioned again and again…10 years is a long time. You could not register all properties in 10 years…You could not do this work in 10 years but now you say that properties have to be registered within 6 months and if that is not done, those properties won’t be of Waqf anymore. Who would do the registration? Your officers. How would that be done within 6 months when it could not be done in 10 years? This is an anti-Constitutional Bill,” Masood said during a discussion on the Waqf amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha.

Earlier, introducing the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025, in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju questioned why Waqf properties haven’t been used to develop the nation and Muslims. There is no Muslim MP to introduce the Bill…They are not able to produce as single member of Muslim community and they are giving morals as how secularism can be protected”.

Rijiju said that India has the highest number of Waqf properties in the world and questioned why they haven’t been used for the education, medical treatment, skill development, and income generation of poor Muslims.

Rijiju also noted that the number of Waqf properties has doubled in the country, and their income has also increased.

The bill was earlier presented in the Lok Sabha on August, last year and a Joint Parliamentary Committee, headed by BJP member Jagdambika Pal, examined it.

The bill seeks to amend the Act of 1995. The Bill seeks to improve the administration and management of waqf properties in India. It aims to overcome the shortcomings of the previous act and enhance the efficiency of Waqf boards, improving the registration process and increasing the role of technology in managing waqf records.
