New Delhi: Congress leader Rashid Alvi challenged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s claims regarding a supposed ‘Pakistan-ISI connection’ involving Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s wife. Alvi demanded to know the source of the CM’s information and the evidence backing such allegations, questioning why no FIR had been filed if there was any proof. He expressed concern that political discourse should not degrade to such levels, emphasizing that defaming opposition leaders and their families through media statements is inappropriate and regrettable.

This statement follows the Assam cabinet’s directive to the state DGP to investigate Ali Sheikh, a Pakistani national, for his alleged “anti-India agenda.” CM Sarma responded to Gaurav Gogoi’s comments about taking legal action over the allegations, stating that any court action would be welcomed and would facilitate a thorough inquiry. He asserted that India is a democratic nation where individuals can pursue legal remedies, and if someone is innocent, the court will vindicate them. The Assam cabinet’s resolution noted that scrutiny of Sheikh’s social media indicated contact with Elizabeth Gogoi, Gaurav Gogoi’s British wife.
