New Delhi: A controversy has arisen over the laying of the foundation stone of the Kedarnath temple in Delhi. Jyotirmath’s Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda strongly opposed the construction of the Kedarnath temple in the capital. He has also alleged a scam in the work of applying gold plating inside the sanctum sanctorum of the Kedarnath temple.

Shankaracharya said that 228 kg of gold is missing from the Kedarnath temple. Swami Avimukteshwarananda said, “There has been a gold scam in Kedarnath; why was that issue not raised? After the scam there, will Kedarnath be built in Delhi now? And then there will be another scam.”

Last year, a senior priest of the Kedarnath temple alleged a scam of up to Rs 125 crore in the gold plating work in the Kedarnath temple. He claimed that brass plating was done instead of gold, although the temple committee rejected this allegation. Shankaracharya said, “228 kg of gold is missing from Kedarnath; no investigation has been started. Who is responsible for this? Now they are saying that they will build Kedarnath in Delhi; this cannot happen.”
