Jaipur: In a protest against their long-delayed demands, police personnel in Rajasthan decided to boycott the Holi celebrations on Saturday. Only senior officers participated in the festivities, while junior officers abstained to highlight their grievances.
The main issues raised by the police include the need for improvements in the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) process and changes to their service conditions. According to the Civil Security Coordinator Committee, police officers from constables to inspectors have expressed frustration over the lack of timely promotions, a problem that has gone unaddressed due to the absence of an official union.
“Many constables feel stuck in their positions, retiring in the same role after decades of service, while employees in other government sectors get regular promotions,” the committee explained.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot voiced his support for the protesting police personnel and urged the state government, led by Chief Minister Bhajanlal, to address their concerns urgently. Gehlot pointed out that the police had ensured a peaceful Holi celebration for the public the previous day, but today were forced to protest over unresolved demands.
He emphasized that the police’s calls for timely promotions through DPC, along with an increase in mess allowances and weekly leave—issues that were addressed in the Budget—remain unresolved. Gehlot further stated that these demands had been raised in the Assembly, and the opposition would continue to press the government for action.
In his appeal, Gehlot also urged the police to reconsider their decision and join in the Holi celebrations.
