New Delhi: The Rohini District Court in Delhi has postponed the civil defamation case filed by former Delhi Minister Satyender Jain against BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj. The hearing could not proceed as Judge Naina Gupta was on leave, and the case is now scheduled for July 14, 2025. Previously, the court had served notice to Swaraj and other respondents.
Jain alleges that Swaraj made defamatory comments during a television interview in October 2023. He has requested the court to order the TV channel to remove the controversial content and to prevent her from making further statements. Jain is seeking a symbolic compensation of one rupee.
The defamation suit, filed by lawyer Karan Sharma, follows a criminal defamation complaint against Swaraj, which was dismissed by the Rouse Avenue court. Jain claims that Swaraj’s remarks were intended to tarnish his reputation and gain political leverage. He specifically points to her assertion that Rs. 3 crores, 1.8 kg of gold, and 133 gold coins were found at his residence during an Enforcement Directorate raid, while he is currently on bail regarding this matter.
Jain contends that Swaraj’s allegations are part of a broader campaign to vilify him, as she labeled him ‘Corrupt’ and ‘Fraud,’ leading to significant harm to his reputation. He states that the damage from these “frivolous allegations” is substantial, affecting not only his public image as a political leader but also his personal life as a husband, father, and friend.
