Agartala: The crucial winter session of the Tripura Assembly is set to commence tomorrow. According to officials, a significant bill will be introduced to amend the current law, allowing retirement benefits for all MLAs, even those who have served just one day.

On the first day, Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu will deliver his customary address, focusing on the achievements and future vision of the state government.

The proposed amendment aims to ensure that any MLA who has taken the oath, regardless of serving duration, will be entitled to full retirement benefits, including pensions and housing loans. Previously, an MLA had to serve for a minimum of four-and-a-half years to qualify for these benefits, as established in the 2022 amendment to the Salaries, Allowances, Pensions, and Other Benefits Act.

Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ratan Lal Nath mentioned that three significant bills, including the one regarding retirement benefits, will be discussed. The Business Advisory Committee has recommended a three-day session that includes private member resolutions, bill introductions, discussions on various topics, and the review of the new proposals.
