Bhopal: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has officially licensed Datia Airport as a public aerodrome under the 3C/VFR category, announced Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday. This new designation makes Datia Airport the eighth public airport in the state, available for general use. CM Yadav expressed his happiness over this milestone, congratulating the residents of Datia and the state at large.

He further remarked that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, both the nation and Madhya Pradesh are advancing swiftly. Prior to September 2024, Madhya Pradesh had only five public airports: Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Khajuraho, and Gwalior. Subsequently, Rewa Airport received a 3C/IFR license on September 9, 2024, and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on October 20, 2024. Satna Airport was also granted a 2B/VFR public aerodrome license on December 23, 2024.

Datia Airport covers approximately 118 acres, featuring a runway that is 1,810 meters long and 30 meters wide. The terminal building has a total area of 768 square meters and can handle up to 100 passengers per hour. The apron is designed to accommodate two ATR-72 aircraft.

To ensure passenger convenience and safety, the airport is equipped with X-ray machines, ETD systems, CCTV cameras, Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD), Handheld Metal Detectors (HHMD), walkie-talkies, Radiotelephony (RT) sets, and a baggage handling system. Passenger facilities also include TVs, Flight Information Display Systems (FIDS), a Public Address (PA) system, a reserved lounge, and Wi-Fi access, along with an emergency response center equipped with a fire truck and ambulance.

The formal inaugurations of the Satna and Datia airports will occur soon, after which public flight operations are set to begin.
