Dahod: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Dahod, Gujarat, on Monday, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth a total of Rs 24,000 crore, including significant railway infrastructure and various initiatives aligned with the state’s development agenda. During the event, he also flagged off the Vande Bharat Express connecting Veraval and Ahmedabad, as well as an express train linking Valsad and Dahod, boosting regional rail connectivity.

Upon arrival, Modi was greeted by a large crowd waving the national flag, and he reflected on his tenure since assuming office in 2014, emphasizing India’s progress and efforts towards self-reliance. He highlighted the country’s advancements in manufacturing and technology, citing the new electric locomotive manufacturing plant in Dahod as an example of India’s capability to produce and export rail technology. He celebrated the completion of the plant, which was built with an investment of Rs 20,000 crore, and announced plans for the production of 1,200 electric locomotives over the next decade under the Public Private Partnership model.

Earlier, Modi inaugurated the Dahod Locomotive Manufacturing Unit and flagged off the first electric locomotive produced there, marking a major step forward for Indian Railways. The facility, designed with an annual capacity of 120 locomotives (expandable to 150), will produce engines capable of hauling 4,600 tonnes, primarily for domestic use and export, with each labeled “Made in Dahod.”

Continuing his Gujarat visit, PM Modi arrived in Vadodara for a roadshow, where he was warmly welcomed amid chants of national slogans. This was his first visit to his home state after recent military operations against terror hubs in Pakistan and PoK. He is scheduled to travel to Bhuj to launch projects worth over Rs 53,400 crore, including developments at Kandla Port, solar energy initiatives, power transmission, and road infrastructure, along with four drinking water schemes benefiting thousands of villagers.

On May 27, he will hold a roadshow in Gandhinagar, expected to attract tens of thousands of BJP supporters, followed by the inauguration and foundation-laying for projects valued at Rs 5,536 crore at Mahatma Mandir. Key among these are the inauguration of over 22,000 houses under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana and the start of the third phase of the Sabarmati Riverfront development, costing Rs 1,000 crore. He will also distribute Rs 3,300 crore in grants to urban local bodies to promote city development.
