New Delhi: Delhi Police arrested two Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly living illegally in the Sadar Bazar area. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohamed Bilal (56) and Farookh (26). Both have prior criminal records.

North Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Raja Bhati confirmed that a case will be filed under the Foreigner’s Act. “The Sadar Bazar police detained Mohamed Bilal and his son Farookh for staying illegally in the area. Bilal has a criminal history, including a robbery case, and is currently involved in a case under the Foreigner’s Act, to which he pleaded guilty,” said DCP Bhati.

Regarding Farookh, the police stated he has two theft cases against him. “The deportation process for the duo has begun, and the police are investigating the whereabouts of other family members,” the DCP added.

Delhi Police have been conducting special operations targeting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants across multiple areas, including Sadar Bazar, Sarai Rohilla, and Wazirabad. So far, five people have been deported from Sadar Bazar, with intensive verification and document checks underway.

On Tuesday, five other Bangladeshi nationals were arrested across the city for illegal residency, with two detained from Sadar Bazar and three from the outer districts. Earlier, on March 8, Delhi Police held a verification drive at Jai Hindi Camp in Vasant Kunj to identify illegal immigrants. Sub-Inspector Ravi Malik stated that during the verification, people were asked for identity proofs, and any suspicious individuals had their details sent for further verification.

Delhi Police had also conducted similar checks on March 6 in the Sangam Vihar area. In January, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena directed police to intensify efforts to identify and deport illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from the capital.
