New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced the schedule of Delhi Assembly elections. After briefing various concerns related to polling, Chief Election Commissioner announced that polling will be held on February 5th.
Assembly elections in Delhi will be held in a single phase on February 5. The results will be declared on February 8. Briefing about schedule, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that 33 thousand booths have been set up for 1.5 crore voters in the country’s capital. There are 83.49 lakh male and 79 lakh female voters. There are 0.8 lakh new voters. 830 voters are above 100 years of age.

EVMs can’t be tampered: EC Rajiv Kumar
There is no evidence of unreliability or any drawback in the EVM… There is no question of introducing a virus or bug in the EVM. There is no question of invalid votes in the EVM. No rigging is possible. High Courts and the Supreme Court are continuously saying this in different judgments… What else can be said? EVMs are foolproof devices for counting. Allegations of tempering are baseless. We are speaking now because we don’t speak when elections are on.”
EC Rajiv Kumar has raised various concerns including, Wrongful additions or deletions in ER, groups targeted, EVMs manipulated, VTR increases from 5 pm onwards, Mismatch in votes polled and counted in some ACs, Counting slowed down and Changed rules to restrict transparency.

Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar briefs the media about concerns related to the election. He said, “There were certain kinds of concerns that were raised (by political parties). It was said that wrongful addition and deletion were made in electoral rolls… It was also said that certain groups are targeted and their names are deleted. Even after giving a reply about EVM – it was said that EVM can be manipulated..”

Announcement of Delhi Assembly Election by EC
The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to announce the election schedule for the 70-member Delhi Assembly on Tuesday. The ECI in a media invite said, “Press Conference by Election Commission of India to announce the schedule for General Election to Legislative Assembly of NCT of Delhi at 2 pm.” The press conference will be held in the Plenary Hall of the Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital. The term of the current Delhi Assembly ends on February 23, and the whole election process has to end before that.
On Monday, the ECI released a newly revised voter list for Delhi. According to the latest figures, Delhi’s voter base has grown significantly over the past two months.
In October 2024, the total number of voters stood at 1,53,57,529. However, after a summary revision, this number has risen to 1,55,24,858, an addition of 1,67,329 new electorates by December 2024. The Commission has cautioned against the submission of false and fabricated documents for getting new voter ID.
The ruling AAP has fielded candidates for all 70 seats. The party was the first to declare candidates for all seats. The party chief and former Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal is again fighting from the New Delhi seat. Chief Minister Atishi is contesting the Kalkaji seat The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released the first list of 29 candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections, fielding former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ministers Kailash Gahlot from Bijwasan and Raj Kumar Anand from Patel Nagar, and former Delhi Congress chief Arvind Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar.
