New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Wednesday that her government aims to increase the number of hospital beds to three per 1,000 residents, a significant improvement from the inadequate healthcare infrastructure left by previous administrations in the city. She shared these plans while laying the foundation stone for a new footpath at SU Block park in Pitampura, located in the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency.

Addressing gathered residents, Gupta said, “With everyone’s blessings, we will complete 100 days in office on May 30, and we will present our progress report on May 31. I don’t make large promises, but I can assure you that Delhi now has a government committed to reducing the city’s problems. Your trust motivates us.”

Reflecting on the past 100 days, Gupta highlighted her government’s efforts to address long-standing public issues through important policy decisions. She criticized previous governments for neglecting solutions and wasting opportunities due to conflicts.

Gupta revealed that a recent high-level health committee meeting uncovered a troubling statistic: Delhi had only 0.47 hospital beds per 1,000 people, far below the WHO’s recommended minimum of two beds. She emphasized that her government is working towards increasing this ratio to three beds per 1,000 residents.

She called for coordinated governance among the MCD, Delhi government, and Central government to ensure no resident goes without treatment or loses their life due to lack of medical care. Additionally, she highlighted the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for facilitating its rollout. She noted that the scheme provides treatment coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh for elderly citizens above 70, split equally between the Centre and Delhi government—an initiative she said is unique to Delhi and not available elsewhere.

Gupta expressed gratitude for public support and concluded by thanking Prime Minister Modi and citizens for their trust, emphasizing that their votes have helped push Delhi forward on its path of development.
