New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence on Sunday, just one day before the Delhi Assembly is set to meet for the first time since the new government was formed. The Assembly session for the national capital will begin tomorrow, with the swearing-in of all MLAs and the election of the speaker occurring on the first day (February 24).
On the second day (February 25), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plans to present the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) report in the assembly. This report was a key issue during the recent election campaign, as the BJP promised to present it in the first session of the assembly.
The CAG report indicated a substantial revenue loss of Rs 2,026 crore due to irregularities in the Delhi government’s excise policy, highlighting issues such as deviations from the policy’s objectives, lack of transparency in pricing, and unpenalized violations in license issuance.
BJP MLA Harish Khurana expressed confidence that the report would reveal corruption within the previous AAP-led government, stating, “Many things will come to light.” He emphasized that the report would address various issues, including education, liquor, and the Sheesh Mahal.
In response, AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar accused the BJP of “imposing” its agenda rather than focusing on its commitments. She urged the BJP to engage in positive politics and fulfill their promises to the people of Delhi, such as providing Rs 2,500 monthly to every woman in the city. Kakkar reminded that AAP had kept their promises during their first cabinet meeting after taking power.
