New Delhi: BJP is making a comeback in Delhi after 27 years. According to the Election Commission, BJP has won 39 seats and is leading on 9 seats, i.e. 48 seats in total. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also won 17 seats, and is leading on 5 seats, i.e. 22 seats in total. Congress has not got a single seat and like past assembly elections, it couldn’t open its account and remained at zero.
In a drastic turn of events, AAP’s big guns including Arvind Kejriwal lost the election from New Delhi and Former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia from Jangpura seat. Other prominent leaders of AAP who have joined Kejriwal and Sisodia include Saurabh Bharadwaj, Satyendra Jain and Somnath Bharti. Bringing some relief for the top leadership, Chief Minister Atishi has managed to win the election from the Kalkaji seat. Kejriwal while conceding the defeat said, “We accept defeat. I congratulate the BJP for the victory. People have given them a majority. They should live up to the expectations of the people.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach the party headquarters in the evening and will give a speech among the workers. Meanwhile, the General Administration Department of the Delhi Government issued orders to seal the Secretariat. It said that no file or document, or computer hardware should go out of the premises of the Secretariat without permission.
Voting for the Delhi Assembly poll 2025 took place in a single phase on February 5. According to the Election Commission of India (EC) data, the approximate voter turnout after the Delhi Assembly election stood at 60.54 percent, with the North East district recording the highest voting percentage — 66.25 percent. The lowest polling was recorded in the South East Delhi district at 56.40 percent.
The incumbent AAP, BJP, and Congress are the main contenders of Delhi poll 2025. AAP is eyeing a third straight full term in Delhi. AAP, which has dominated the last two Assembly polls in Delhi, won 62 out of 70 seats in the 2020 election, while the BJP won eight. Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 years, failed to open its account in the last two Assembly polls and is predicted to perform similarly this time as well.
Exit poll results for the Delhi election were released on Wednesday evening after the voting for the Assembly poll concluded. Most exit polls projected a comfortable win for the BJP in the Delhi Assembly election, while the incumbent AAP is predicted to be failing to hit a hattrick. Exit polls projected another rout for Congress.
