New Delhi: Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay on Monday issued a revised judicial roster, assigning cases previously handled by Justice Yashwant Varma to Justice Subramonium Prasad.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi High Court updated its supplementary cause list, announcing the immediate withdrawal of judicial duties from Justice Varma until further notice. The decision follows recent developments linked to a controversy surrounding the judge.

Justice Yashwant Varma came under scrutiny after a fire broke out at his residence on March 14, 2025, leading to the discovery of a large sum of cash. He has strongly refuted the allegations, maintaining that neither he nor his family owns the money. He has also claimed that the incident is part of a deliberate conspiracy to frame and tarnish his reputation.

On Saturday night, the Supreme Court released an inquiry report prepared by the Delhi High Court Chief Justice regarding the controversy. The report stated that, on a preliminary basis, the matter requires a more in-depth investigation.

Additionally, the Supreme Court made public Justice Varma’s response, in which he denied any connection to the cash found at his residence. He clarified that the room where the money was allegedly discovered was an outhouse, separate from the main building where he and his family reside.

In response to the situation, Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna has established a three-member committee comprising senior judges to conduct a thorough inquiry into the allegations against Justice Varma.
