New Delhi: The Delhi High Court recently dismissed an FIR against a man accused of staring at a woman during a flight from Indore to Delhi in 2024. The court acquitted the man after the parties reached an agreement and settled their disputes. The FIR was initially lodged in May 2024.
Justice Ravinder Dudeja ordered the quashing of the FIR on May 30, after noting that both the accused and the complainant had resolved their differences. The judge stated that continuing with the case would serve no purpose since the parties had put an end to their dispute, and ordered the cancellation of all proceedings related to the FIR registered under Section 509 of the Indian Penal Code at IGI Airport Police Station.
The allegations stemmed from the complainant’s claim that on May 28, 2024, a co-passenger persistently stared at her during a flight, causing her discomfort. After landing, she formally complained to the police, leading to the FIR being registered.
Advocate Sanjeev Malik informed the court that the parties had amicably settled their issues with the help of well-wishers, and a Settlement Agreement was executed on December 16, 2024, which was also presented to the court. The complainant’s lawyer stated she had no objection to the FIR being quashed, emphasizing that the matter was resolved without any coercion. The Additional Public Prosecutor also supported the request for quashing, mentioning he had no objection to the case and charges being dismissed.
