New Delhi: Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa visited Rajouri Garden on Friday and announced the immediate closure of illegal meat shops operating in the area. Sirsa alleged that illegal activities have proliferated, with numerous meat shops and ‘dhabas’ being set up indiscriminately.

He stated, “There is significant illegal activity happening here. Meat shops are operating everywhere with open ‘tandoors.’ I have instructed the administration to halt all illegal operations within the next 24 hours and close these meat shops. The situation will not be tolerated.”

Sirsa expressed concern over the “excessive” number of meat shops in residential areas, suggesting that their presence is a tactic to drive local residents away. “They are forcing people out by establishing too many meat shops in the neighborhoods, which is not a coincidence but rather a deliberate strategy. In some areas, there are as many as 30 non-vegetarian shops, leaving residents with no choice but to relocate. However, we will not allow this to continue. All illegal meat shops will be sealed, their electricity meters disconnected, and no new connections will be granted in those buildings,” he added.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma, inspected key waterlogging-prone areas of the capital, including the Minto Bridge area. During the inspection, Chief Minister Gupta remarked, “We are here at Minto Bridge to check on the site where a whole bus was submerged due to waterlogging. To prevent similar situations and find timely solutions, we have installed pumps that activate automatically when water levels rise.” She assured that water pump operators would be deployed around the clock during the rainy season to manage potential flooding.
