New Delhi, May 3: Delhi experienced the second-highest rainfall since 1901, with 78 mm recorded on Friday morning, causing waterlogging in several areas across the National Capital Region. The highest rainfall on record was 119.3 mm in 2021.
Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma, along with BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, inspected road conditions in Golf Links amid the heavy rains. He assured residents that all drainage and flood prevention work by the NDMC is on schedule, aiming for completion by May 30 before the monsoon peaks.
Verma highlighted ongoing efforts, including the construction of sump wells equipped with pumps and extensive desilting, to mitigate flooding. He dismissed claims by AAP leader Atishi about power issues, asserting Delhi’s electricity supply remains stable, with no significant outages reported recently.
Forecasts attribute the heavy rainfall to moisture from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, influenced by the remnants of Cyclone Tauktae, which recently crossed Gujarat. Officials remain confident that Delhi is adequately prepared for the upcoming monsoon season.
