New Delhi: The Delhi Police have apprehended a notorious robbery suspect, Akash Jha, alias Monu, following a gunfire exchange during an operation in Vikaspuri aimed at apprehending him for extortion attempts. Jha, 25, a resident of Indra Camp No. 5, sustained injuries during the encounter and is now being treated at Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital.

Police reported that Jha had a prior arrest in 2024 related to a shooting incident in Mayapuri and was only recently released from jail in November 2024. Despite having a history of complaints from local residents regarding his extortion activities, he had not faced any formal charges.

Acting on intelligence, the West District Operations team located Jha’s hideout in Indira Camp No. 5 and initiated a raid around 1:30 AM on March 28. When confronted, Jha opened fire, striking one police officer’s bulletproof vest. Officers returned fire in self-defense, injuring Jha in his left leg.

Jha has a criminal record that includes multiple cases of robbery, assault, and firing incidents. He is also wanted under the Gunda Act in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. Legal proceedings are underway against him at the Vikaspuri Police Station, with additional details pending.

In a separate incident, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two Delhi Police personnel for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe of ₹2.5 lakh. The officers, Head Constable Sanwarmal and Constable Shubham Gill, were assigned to the Sagarpur police station in South West Delhi.

The CBI launched an investigation based on a complaint filed on March 26, which accused them of demanding ₹5 lakh to avoid implicating the complainant in an NDPS case. After negotiations, the bribe was settled at ₹3 lakh, leading to a successful sting operation where both officers were caught while accepting ₹2.5 lakh.
