New Delhi: The Delhi police arrested 24-year-old Vijay, also known as Lale, in connection with a hit-and-run incident intended to cause attempted murder. The suspect, a resident of the Rangpuri area, was apprehended on Sunday, and the police also recovered the vehicle involved, a Mahindra Thar.

The case was initiated after a complaint was filed on May 4 at the Vasant Kunj South police station by Rajiv Kumar, who was deliberately struck by a four-wheeler at the Red Light near Mahipalpur Flyover. Kumar, employed as a security guard for Firewall Securities Ltd., sustained multiple fractures and injuries to his legs and ankle.

Following the complaint, the police registered a case under sections 281/109(1) of the Indian Penal Code and launched an investigation. They meticulously examined CCTV footage from the area, which led to the identification of the offending vehicle as a black Mahindra Thar and its owner.

A notice under section 133 of the Motor Vehicles Act was served to the vehicle owner. Using the evidence gathered, authorities arrested Vijay from near Tata Telco in Rangpuri, Delhi, and seized the vehicle used in the crime.

According to the security guard, the incident occurred after he requested the driver not to honk; he was run over by the vehicle in question, resulting in multiple injuries. The entire event was recorded on CCTV footage.

Earlier, on April 4, the Delhi police also apprehended the main suspect in a double murder case in Adarsh Nagar. The accused, 65-year-old Nand Kishore alias Thuria, a resident of Model Town, was involved in a violent incident near Parmanand Hospital traffic light on April 22, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of Kamal and Amzad, who succumbed to severe injuries sustained during a quarrel. Another individual, Abid, was injured in the same event.

The Adarsh Nagar police registered a case under sections 109(1), 103(1), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
