DGCA bans Thumby aviation helicopter flights in Kedarnath, Probe underway

After the helicopter accidents in Uttarakhand, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has banned the helicopter services of Thumby Aviation for further orders.

Dehradun, May 13: After the helicopter accidents in Uttarakhand, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has banned the helicopter services of Thumby Aviation for further orders. This company used to provide facilities to passengers from Phata to Kedarnath and Badrinath.

But after some incidents that happened in the past, DGCA has taken this decision. The passengers who have booked tickets of Thumby Aviation for Kedarnath Yatra will be shifted to another company.

A helicopter narrowly escaped a crash in Badrinath

Actually, on Monday, a helicopter of Thumby Aviation had escaped a crash in Badrinath. On Monday, a helicopter of Thambi Aviation reached Badrinath with passengers from Phata. It was flying from there to pick up other passengers.

Meanwhile, the helicopter’s wings collided with a vehicle parked at some distance and it went out of control. The pilot managed to control the helicopter with great difficulty and landed it on the helipad. This saved a major accident from happening.

The accident happened in Uttarkashi on 8 May

Whereas, on 8 May also a helicopter crashed in Ganganani of Uttarkashi district. In which 6 passengers died. DGCA took these incidents seriously and has banned the heli services of Thumby Aviation till the investigation is completed.

This company provides facilities to passengers for Kedarnath from Phata helipad. Passengers who book tickets for Kedarnath Dham from Thumby Aviation will now be taken to Kedarnath by other companies from Guptkashi, Sirsi or Phata.

The ban will remain till the investigation is completed – CEO UKADA

DGCA has currently banned Thumby Aviation Company from flying helicopters. DGCA’s team will soon visit Uttarakhand.

They will inspect the helipad and various technical aspects of this company. Only after that a decision will be taken on Thumby Aviation’s helicopter operations.
