Jalandhar – The ongoing redevelopment work at Jalandhar Cantt railway station has led to significant disruptions in train services, affecting the movement of 60 trains over the next week. Starting from today, October 18, until October 24, 16 trains have been cancelled, while the origin and destination of 9 trains have been shortened. Additionally, 12 trains have been diverted and 23 others have been rescheduled.
Prominent trains such as the Swarna Shatabdi, New Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi Express, and Shan-e-Punjab will short terminate at Ludhiana railway station during this period. Passengers traveling on these trains will need to board and disembark at Ludhiana instead, as services to and from Jalandhar will be temporarily halted.
The list of cancelled trains includes the Amritsar-Nangal Dam Express, Chheharta Memu Express, Ambala Cantt – Ludhiana Express, Jalandhar – Nakodar Express, and the Ludhiana – Lohian Khas train, among others.
Moreover, several trains, including the Amrapali Express, Sarbat Da Bhala Express, Swaraj Express, Jamnagar, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Superfast Express, and the Ajmer-Amritsar Express, will be diverted between Jalandhar City and Ludhiana, further complicating travel plans for passengers.
Passengers have expressed their frustration over these cancellations and modifications, emphasizing that such disruptions are particularly inconvenient during the festival season, with Diwali approaching. Many have urged railway authorities to reconsider their schedule and avoid activities that affect train services during this peak travel time.
Earlier this month, a similar disruption occurred from September 30 to October 9, where 10 trains were cancelled, 19 were diverted, and 33 were affected due to the redevelopment work at the station. With complaints mounting, passengers are calling for the railway authorities to take immediate action to mitigate the impact on commuters during this festive period.
