Manipur: Security forces in Manipur have detained two drug traffickers, including a woman in Churachandpur district, and seized drugs worth over Rs 2.84 crore along with Rs 37.5 lakh in cash.
One arrest involved Doukholet Hanghal (52), who was caught at his home in Mongkot Khopi village. During a search, authorities recovered 870 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 1.74 crore, 260 grams of heroin in 20 soap cases valued at Rs 52 lakh, Rs 29.5 lakh from drug sales, two radio sets, and a mobile phone.
The other arrest was of Chigenvung (46) in Tangnuam village, where 25 soap cases containing 289 grams of brown sugar valued at around Rs 60 lakh, Rs 8 lakh in cash, and a mobile phone were recovered.
The police identified Myanmar as the source of the drugs, as the unfenced border with Myanmar passes through Churachandpur. Additionally, a member of the banned PREPAK outfit, Jameson Ngangbam (21), was detained from Kamjong district with a pistol and ammunition.
Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) seized 95 bags (1,710 kg) of smuggled garlic from Bangladesh in Mizoram’s Mamit district, worth Rs 2.73 lakh. The northeastern borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh, stretching over thousands of kilometers and mostly unfenced, are key transit routes for drugs like heroin and methamphetamine entering India.
