Mizoram: In the northeastern states of Mizoram and Manipur, authorities seized drugs worth Rs 9.70 crore and apprehended four suspects, highlighting the ongoing challenge of narcotic smuggling from Myanmar. A Defence spokesperson stated that based on specific intelligence about drug trafficking, a mobile vehicle check post was set up by Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police late on Tuesday at Teikhang in Mizoram’s Saitual district.

During the operation, authorities intercepted two individuals riding Chinese-made Kenbo bikes, leading to the recovery of 758 grams of heroin with an estimated market value of Rs 5.30 crore. In a separate operation in Manipur, Assam Rifles and local police searched in Koide, Senapati district, uncovering 2.2 kg of brown sugar hidden inside 220 soap cases, valued at Rs 4.40 crore. Two individuals suspected of involvement in narcotics-related activities were also detained.

These joint efforts underscore the strong resolve of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in fighting drug trafficking and ensuring regional stability. The seized drugs and suspects have been handed over to local authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Additionally, on Monday on the outskirts of Aizawl, Mizoram police, in collaboration with the Young Mizo Association’s anti-drugs squad, arrested two individuals with drugs worth Rs 4 crore. The raid resulted in the seizure of 2 kg of heroin and 9.8 kg of methamphetamine tablets.

Most of these drugs are smuggled from Myanmar, which shares a 1,643 km unfenced border with Mizoram, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland, making it a critical transit route for heroin and methamphetamine entering India.
