Dy CM Surinder Chowdry moves resolution to restore J&K Special Status, BJP creates ruckus

In the resolution, Chaudhary has asked the Center to talk to the MLAs to restore the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

Srinagar: Ruckus and chaos erupted in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly as soon as the resolution to restore the special status was moved. BJP MLAs altogether opposed the move and tore the copies of the resolution. The MLAs went into the well and kept raising slogans. Deputy Chief Minister of J&K Surinder Chowdry moved a resolution which called to restore the erstwhile state’s special status.

The BJP alleged that the Speaker called a meeting of ministers and drafted the resolution himself. After this, the MLAs climbed on the bench and created a ruckus.

During this, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather said to BJP MLAs, “If you do not trust me, then bring a no-confidence motion.” Due to the uproar, the proceedings of the House were adjourned till Thursday.

Earlier, as soon as the proceedings of the House started, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy CM Surinder Chaudhary introduced a resolution to restore the special status, which was revoked by the Center on August 5, 2019.

In the resolution, Chaudhary has asked the Center to talk to the MLAs to restore the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

As soon as the session of the Assembly started, Deputy CM Surinder Chowdry put forward this proposal. It said, “The special status of the state and constitutional guarantees are important. It protects the identity, culture and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The assembly expresses concern over its unilateral removal.”

He further added, “The Government of India should talk to the representatives here regarding the special status of the state. Work should be done on its constitutional restoration. The assembly emphasizes that this restoration should be done keeping in mind both the national unity and the wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Independent MLAs Sheikh Khurshid and Shabbir Kulle, PC chief Sajjad Lone and PDP MLAs supported the resolution to restore the special status.
