Srinagar: Eid prayers were conducted across Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, with the largest gathering taking place at the Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar.
Thousands of Muslims came together at various Eidgahs in the union territory (UT) to offer thanksgiving prayers on Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah joined the faithful at the Hazratbal shrine for the Eid prayers.
Many children attended prayers with their fathers, dressed in new clothes to celebrate the occasion.
Eid prayers also took place in several locations throughout Srinagar, as well as in the districts of Budgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Pulwama, Shopian, and Kulgam in the Valley.
In Jammu, the largest gathering for Eid was observed at the Eidgah ground, where hundreds of Muslims offered prayers.
Hindu and Sikh friends and neighbors exchanged greetings with their Muslim counterparts during the celebrations, showcasing scenes of communal harmony in various regions of the Jammu division, including Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Reasi, Udhampur, Samba, and Kathua.
Authorities had ensured adequate security and sanitation measures at prayer sites to facilitate a smooth experience for the devotees.
However, Eid prayers were not permitted at the traditional Eidgah grounds in the old city area of Srinagar due to ongoing renovations, according to officials from the Waqf board.
Senior religious and political figure Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who intended to offer prayers at the Eidgah ground in Srinagar, claimed he had been placed under house arrest by authorities.
Numerous charitable organizations in Kashmir support orphans and those in need, relying on public donations. Over the past two decades, the culture of contributing to these institutions has increased in Kashmir, with well-off families often making generous donations to ensure the less fortunate can partake in the joy of Eid celebrations.
All Eid prayers across J&K concluded without incident, and there have been no reports of any disturbances.
