New Delhi: Delhi Police Crime Branch has dismantled an interstate gang linked to notorious gangster Gurjant Singh, also known as Janta, who is suspected of Khalistani ties. Eight members of the gang have been apprehended, and a significant cache of weapons and ammunition has been recovered, police officials announced.
Additional Crime Branch Chief Sanjay Kumar Sain told ANI that two of the gang members were involved in a recent shooting at a victim’s house in Anand Vihar on the night of May 8. The attack was carried out following an extortion threat made to the victim in March 2025. The gang’s arrests have dealt a serious blow to Gurjant Singh’s major network based in Haryana.
The shooting incident at a businessman’s house in Anand Vihar on April 8 was linked to an extortion call demanding Rs. 5 Crores from the victim. The gang is primarily based in Ambala, Haryana, with members from Ambala and neighboring districts. On May 1, police received specific intelligence that one gang member was headed to Chandigarh to collect a large consignment of arms.
On May 2, police laid a trap on GT Road, Delhi, intercepting a cab carrying suspect Sumit Ghangas from Panipat, Haryana. During the search, they recovered 45 live cartridges of 7.62 caliber. Investigations revealed that Sumit’s younger brother Rahul Ghangas, who had previous attempted murder charges and was lodged in Panipat Jail, was in contact with Gurjant Singh via social media and WhatsApp after his release on bail in January 2025.
Rahul Ghangas had been instructed by Gurjant Singh to carry out the shooting in Anand Vihar. He, along with associates Rohit and Ashish, traveled to Chandigarh, collected the weapons, and returned by dropping associates in Sonipat, Haryana. Rahul Ghangas and his associates were later arrested during raids in Haryana, with weapons and ammunition recovered from their possession.
Further investigations revealed Rahul Ghangas had received arms and instructions directly from Gurjant Singh while in jail. He was tasked with firing at a businessman’s house to facilitate extortion. Rahul, along with co-accused Saurabh, robbed a motorcycle at gunpoint and carried out the Anand Vihar attack.
In subsequent raids, other gang members—Preetpal and Deepak aka Gola—were also apprehended in Ambala, Haryana. The police recovered a country-made pistol and ammunition used in the attack, as well as additional weapons during custody.
Overall, the operation has successfully disrupted Gurjant Singh’s network involved in weapons smuggling, extortion, and violent crimes across Delhi and Haryana.
