Mumbai: Eknath Shinde, the Shiv Sena President and Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, urged party members to prepare for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, emphasizing the need for a strong ground game following their successful Assembly elections. During a party rally, he encouraged workers to engage with voters by highlighting the initiatives undertaken by the MahaYuti government from June 2022 to November 2024.
Shinde advocated for the establishment of a Shiv Sena unit and dedicated members in every ward and called for an increase in voter registrations, aiming for each ward to register over 10,000 members. While not directly naming Uddhav Thackeray, he addressed concerns about the potential separation of Mumbai from Maharashtra, asserting that Mumbai will always remain a part of the state.
He also outlined the government’s plans to revive stalled redevelopment projects and reinstate residents who had to leave the city. Shinde mentioned efforts to coordinate various government agencies to boost development in Mumbai and highlighted infrastructure achievements, such as the construction of seven sewage treatment plants aimed at improving the water quality of the sea.
In recalling his inaugural address to the state Assembly after taking office in June 2022, he noted his commitment to the MahaYuti coalition’s success, stating that their election results affirmed the authenticity of his faction of the Shiv Sena. He reiterated that he and 39 legislators initiated a breakaway from Thackeray’s leadership to uphold Balasaheb Thackeray’s principles and accused Uddhav Thackeray’s faction of prioritizing property over ideology.
Shinde also denied rumors of internal discord within the MahaYuti coalition, asserting that their struggle is against those opposing development. He reminded attendees that Balasaheb Thackeray envisioned significant projects like the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir—objectives that the current central government has achieved.
The rally also saw several leaders and members from Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP(SP) joining Shinde’s faction.
