Bhilai: After a ten-year pursuit, police in Bhilai arrested Ravi Soni, the last suspect involved in the theft of five massive industrial nuts from Bhilai Steel Plant in Chhattisgarh. Soni had eluded capture for years but was finally caught following fresh intelligence reports that led authorities to his hideout.

Soni, along with four others, orchestrated the theft of the five large nuts—each weighing about 4,674 kilograms—from the plant’s spare yard, with a total estimated value of Rs 65 lakh. While his accomplices were previously apprehended, Soni remained in hiding until his recent arrest.

These nuts were specially manufactured for large-scale industrial use at the plant’s plate mill, and their theft represented a significant loss.

The incident dates back to June 23, 2015, when the Deputy General Manager of the plate mill filed a complaint at Bhatti police station. An investigation was launched, revealing that the theft was committed using a truck with the registration number CG 07 AV 2670. The truck was seized, and further probes uncovered that the suspects had forged a challan to gain unauthorized access to the steel plant before removing the nuts from the yard.

Authorities had already arrested four suspects, who were in judicial custody, but Soni had remained at large until his arrest on Sunday. Based on intelligence suggesting he was hiding in Jamul village, police raided the location, detained him, and brought him to court. He is now in judicial custody, effectively closing a case that persisted for years. The other accused had previously obtained bail.
