The festival season in India has commenced with various celebrations such as Navratri, Ramleela, Garba, and Dandiya, which are anticipated to generate over Rs 50,000 crore in revenue nationwide, according to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).
In Delhi, the contribution is estimated to exceed Rs 8,000 crore, as consumer activity is expected to rise significantly in the markets, greatly benefiting traders. Praveen Khandelwal, CAIT Secretary General and Member of Parliament, highlighted that this year’s festive shopping will prominently feature products made in India, with consumers showing reduced interest in Chinese goods.
The “Vocal for Local” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” campaigns led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi have enhanced the quality of Indian products, leading more consumers to opt for locally produced items.
Across the nation, over 100,000 events encompassing religious, cultural, social, and spiritual programs will be organized, creating millions of job opportunities. Major festivities including Navratri, Ramleela, Garba, Dandiya, Vijayadashami, Durga Visarjan, Diwali, Chhath Puja, and others will continue throughout the season.
Delhi is set to host more than 1,000 Ramleelas and numerous Durga Puja pandals, while Garba and Dandiya, known for being celebrated in Gujarat, will have widespread participation across the nation, including in the capital. Khandelwal noted the increased demand for traditional attire, puja supplies, sweets, and decorative items during the festive period.
Food items and sweets like halwa, laddoo, and barfi will see a surge in consumption, along with a rising demand for fruits and flowers. Decorative products such as diyas, torans, rangoli materials, and lighting are also sought after for home and puja pandal embellishments.
Tent houses and decoration businesses are expected to experience a boom as numerous fairs and festival events are planned across the country, drawing millions of attendees.
