New Delhi, May 31: The Delhi High Court on Friday granted bail to film director Sanoj Kumar Mishra in a rape case. The 28-year-old victim has said in her affidavit that she was in a live-in relationship with Sanoj Mishra and had consensual physical relations. She also said that she had filed the FIR under pressure from some of Mishra’s opponents.
After this, Justice Girish Kathpalia granted bail to Sanoj Kumar Mishra. Justice Kathpalia said that this is another case of filing false rape complaints. This not only damages the image of the accused, but also creates suspicion and distrust in the entire society. Delhi Police arrested him in March 2025 after an FIR was registered in the rape case.
Sanoj Mishra’s lawyers Amit Chaddha and Aamir Chaudhary argued that the film director and the complainant were in a live-in relationship for a long time. Both lived together in Mumbai, while the rape allegation was made in Orchha, Madhya Pradesh. Therefore, this case was also not within the jurisdiction of Delhi.
At the same time, in her statement given on May 21, the woman said that the accused never raped her or committed any crime and she was in a relationship with him for the last five years. She had filed a false complaint under the instigation of some people. The complainant also said that she has no objection if the accused gets bail.
After this, Justice Kathpalia said that now there is no reason left to deny bail to the accused. The judge directed Sanoj Mishra to be released on a personal bond of Rs 10,000 and a surety of the same amount to the satisfaction of the trial court, area magistrate or duty magistrate.
The girl had alleged that she had had abortion thrice
The victim said that the director threatened to commit suicide.
The 28-year-old girl said in her complaint that she had met director Sanoj in 2020 through social media platforms TikTok and Instagram. At that time, I lived in Jhansi. We kept talking for some time.
The director called me on June 17, 2021 and told me that he had reached Jhansi railway station. When I refused to meet him citing social pressure, he threatened to commit suicide. Out of fear, I went to meet him. The next day on June 18, 2021, he called me again and called me to the railway station.
Sanoj Mishra had offered his film to Monalisa, who went viral during the Prayagraj Mahakumbh. After this, he came into the limelight. Monalisa will play the role of Anupam Kher’s daughter in ‘The Diary of Manipur’.
